School of Nuclear Medicine Technology

The School of Nuclear Medicine Technology at the Central Maine Medical Center College of Nursing and Health Professions offers a challenging and rewarding career educational opportunity. The College's two year associate of applied science degree program provides instruction and clinical experience through a blend of classroom and clinical education.

The Central Maine Medical Center School of Nuclear Medicine Technology was founded in 1996 in response to a rapidly changing healthcare environment. In 2009 the program was expanded to include classroom and clinical education in computed tomography (CT). The combination of focus better meets the expanding needs of nuclear medicine technology that includes dual imaging in PET/CT. The associate of applied science degree program will first be offered to students in the Fall 2012 to include general education courses as well as courses and clinical practicum in nuclear medicine and CT.

The challenging curriculum consists of classroom instruction, on-line participation, self study, and clinical education. Students attend the program on a full-time basis. On the average students attend class one day a week and clinical rotations three or four days a week in medical imaging departments throughout Maine.

Upon graduation from the program, graduates are eligible to apply for national certification examinations in both nuclear medicine technology and CT and are eligible for Maine state licensing.
